Making A Difference for Charity
May 2013 - Over the next few weeks the Duckery will under go a transformation! The success and philosophy of the Rambling Duck has always been to help others. This has encouraged many of you to persuade me promote The Rambling Duck as a new business intiative that helps charities and inspires health and fitness. I am humbled but eggstatic that you all believe in me. My flock of Duckateers and Duckstars are the strength and support behind the success of The Rambling Duck too.
The Duckery is the infamous residence of my alter ego, The Rambling Duck. This is a collaboration of old monikers given affectionately by friends who knew me as an endurance hiker and chatterbox! The Duck part is because I dressed as a Duck, the mascot for Fibromyalgia, a chronic invisible illness that I have raised awareness of and fundraised for. I have worn the Ducksuit for all my challenges, and hopefully raised many smiles, as I waddled the miles for charity and fitness!
I have inspired and motivated many people to push themselves beyond what they thought they were capable of, so the Rambling Duck lives on to build on that confidence and belief in You and Me. I just have to look at my Forces March 2012 Sarah Bryant Trophy and remember, understand and acknowledge that I am a tough cookie who doesn't crumble, give up and will always help others through too. I may not be an athlete of body in speed and agility, but I am an athlete strong, focused, positive and determined in mind, body and soul.
Over the last three years I have trained hard for a variety of challenges that have pushed me out my comfort zone. It has enabled me to fuel your own imagination for what you can also achieve. I have raised nearly £10,000 in donations plus awareness for a variety charities. From couch potato to ultra duck in 3 years and a cabinet full of bling to prove it! 35 medals for half marathons, full marathons, 5 marathons in 5 days......
I am a working Mum juggling my training with my career and my family. I need a well planned and organised balance of enjoying quality family time, having fun with friends, training and finding time for my other hobbies such as backpacking and hiking. I have a strong mind, ideal for endurance events and a wealth of experience from the variety of events I have trained and competed in.
I am the Berkshire Community Fundraiser for the charity DEBRA. It is an honour to have my creative and exhuberant character harnessed to support and promote such a wonderful charity helping people with this awful genetic skin condition known as Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).
I am also a member of the Reading Central BNI chapter, a successful referral network group for businessess. Through business partnerships made within BNI, I now have a close group of trusted advisors helping me to be a successful community fundraiser. I’ve developed many new skills, including improving my public speaking and standing out as a fundraiser with a difference and added value. I am more effective at raising awareness of DEBRA and EB which ultimately means vital funds for research to find a cure to eradicate EB forever.
I hope I can inspire you take on a new challenge and help a charity. But above all, I hope I can make you smile.

Nailed! 5 marathons in 5 days!
(May 2012)
A very proud moment receiving the Sarah Bryant trophy for most Outstanding Female for the 2012 Forces March.
This is a challenge that I had been training a year for. You can read more about the Forces March and share my journey!
I have also completed 60 miles in 20 hours on a Dreadmill and competed with Reading Joggers at Run24uk. Mind over matter. Stamina and endurance training of the mind, body and soul! That was two 24hour endurance events in 7 days.
In four weeks I have completed these three endurance events. Training, preperation and a lot of support helped me achieve this. An ordinary person doing extraordinary things with extraordinary people.
