I have successfully completed this awesome endurance challenge!
I waddled every day in my ducksuit in 28 degrees + and was awarded
the Sarah Byrant Trophy for outstanding Female,
a truly humbling award to receive when I am with the
most incredible people who are all outstanding.
Please do read about my Rambles about it

I am doing the Forces March in May 2012
to raise £1000 for The Veterans Charity

This is 5 marathons in 5 days!

Picture
I am training hard, learning to run from scratch, and competing in a few half marathons from
October 2011 through to April 2012 in preparation.

I am joining forces with Team Warrior to do this 5 marathons in 5 days. They did it in 2011 and successfully completed it in good time and with minor injuries.

The Rambling Duck is now training to be a Marathon Duck!
You can read more about the Forces March here. Perhaps even think about entering! I am no athlete, just a regular chunkymunky training to have 5 tough days of fun with some great people, for an extremely quacktastic cause.

£1000 is a modest amount to raise when you consider how the money is spent. It is invested in making a veteran's life more comfortable. It's the least I can do when they give, and gave, so much.
  • £500 could buy a mobility scooter
  • £150 could buy a powered bath lift. This means a disabled veteran can be more independant and not rely on carers, families or friends for something quite personal.
  • £10 can buy a winter duvet to keep a veteran warm in the warm, who is truggling to pay fuel and heating bills.
  • £10 could buy a meal and a change of scenery, when undergoing intensive care and surgery. It's these little things we take for granted that are so uplifting, satisfying for the heart and soul. It helps with recovery.
  • £5 could buy the kit needed for a blind veteran to be able to make themselves a hot drink without scolding themselves.

There are so many things that veterans need to make life comfortable, but not always affordable. The Veterans Charity cuts through the red tape and delivers today... not in a few months when all the forms are filled in and grants appiled for. The smallest gesture can make a huge difference to someone in recovery from injury or someone in need of support. Modest provisions can be made much quicker and begin to make a difference quicker.

The 132 mile Route

Picture
The Forces March is one of the UK’s top challenge events. Running and walking participants attempt to complete five stages in five days to raise money for THE VETERANS CHARITY. Each stage is at least 26 miles in length – 5 marathons in 5 days! The undulating all-road route begins in Ilfracombe, North Devon and passes through Exmoor, the Quantock Hills, rural Somerset and much of Salisbury Plain before finishing just outside of Bulford Camp, the UK’s biggest Army Garrison.

The Forces March is based on a legendary march taken by men of the newly formed 6th Airborne Division during early training for D-Day in the summer of 1942. Following weeks of intensive PT the men were told they could stand down and head back to Bulford Camp where they were based at the time. However, one last task was assigned; to WALK back to Bulford. A distance of approximately 130 miles! The men not only walked back to Bulford but they completed the arduous route in 5 days dressed in FULL KIT each carrying up to 80lbs in weight!
